Giving you something to look forward to

For most of us the summer holidays are all but over as we look forward to getting life back to some semblance of order, but fear not there are still reasons that we can get excited and have things to look forward to. For us, that in no small part is thanks to Leeds Business Week (LBW).

One of the largest events in the Yorkshire Mafia (YM) calendar, we will host a week-long celebration of business with hundreds of events and thousands of participants. Once again, bringing together the professional community from Yorkshire and beyond, we will introduce experts, offer guidance and advice and encourage the great and good to build long-term relationships.

Bringing on board our sponsors

A true example of this principle in practice is Lockyers, the national award-winning insurance broker, who will be joining us as sponsor of the LBW Lunch for the second year. Established in 1981, the company has evolved from a small shop in Normanton to a specialist in insuring manufacturers, wholesalers and the leisure industry nation-wide.

Managing Director of Lockyers, Jon Newall, explains why LBW is so important and how it supports his business while we all try our best to see the positives during times of continued economic and political uncertainty.

“Despite uncertainty over Brexit and rising inflation there are still opportunities for growth. With over 100 events planned during LBW, it is a great chance for Yorkshire business people to get together, share ideas and identify opportunities to trade together to benefit both business and the community at large.

“This will be the second year that we have sponsored the LBW Lunch and it is an ideal platform for us to subtly promote our brand and the services we offer at a high-profile event. Getting involved in the programme from the outset means that we benefit from the communication in the run up to and during LBW, creating an opportunity to engage with key decision makers from across the Yorkshire region.

“Most importantly, LBW allows us to mix business with pleasure as we catch up with existing clients and meet with new people too. After all, we hope to work with even more businesses across a range of sectors as we continue to extend our profile across the region.

“At Lockyers we like to have some fun – it has to be a balance and we believe in working hard and also having a giggle. Last year we raised some smiles with our branded sunglasses, which featured all over social media channels. We’re just putting the final plans in place, but we think this year’s idea is even better!”

Becoming a national success story

LBW is not the only event that Lockyers is involved with as the business also shows it support for community and business activities throughout the region.  This year, as an example, it has become corporate sponsor for the Theatre Royal Wakefield, supporter of Yorkshire Charity Ball (2017), sponsor of York Cricket Club and exhibitor at Buy Yorkshire, the largest business to business event in the North.

With premier accounts with most UK branded insurers, providing competitive deals and some exclusive products, it can get the right cover for clients at the right price. As the first company to win both the Insurance Times Independent Broker and Commercial Lines Broker Awards in the same year, it has proven that a professional, straight-talking company from Yorkshire really can become a nationally recognised success story.

Sharing your ideas and suggestions

While here at the YM we encourage more businesses to consider how they can benefit from LBW, our regular drinks evenings and Buy Yorkshire 2018, we would also like members to step forward and to tell us what they want to see from the Group and the events that we host.

We have a full programme, which runs throughout the year, but we are always interested to hear from those who want to share ideas and create future opportunities that we all benefit from. As ever, we really believe that we are ‘Stronger Together’.

We look forward to seeing you all during Leeds Business Week.
